Junior Church

Junior Church –
You Are Never Too Young To Start

Junior Church runs in term time during the 10.00am Sunday service and takes place in the church hall, and all primary school aged children are welcome. There are always two leaders on hand, and older children are also very welcome to come and help!

Programme for Junior Church

WHAT DO WE DO?

We use as a guide the teaching programmes set out in the “Roots” publications, which suggests activities that will reflect the Gospel reading for the day, so we are thinking and reflecting on the same issues as the main congregation. The session will usually start with a game to warm up and introduce the theme of the day, followed by reading a simplified story version of the gospel reading. We will then go on to the main activity, which could be creative art work, model making, drama, cooking, treasure hunts, gardening or problem solving games.

We are also thinking of ways we can encourage the children to become involved in the EcoChurch

SPECIAL SERVICES

The children like to take part in special church services and presented a nativity dramatisation at Christmas.  Now every quarter we get them to do a special song or reading for the service, for example they sang “Day by Day” at one service and “All things bright and beautiful” at the Mothering Day Service.

We run an annual kids activity afternoon to help promote Junior Church, which is happened this year on April 16th from 2-5pm.

JUNIOR CHURCH GRADUATES!

This year we have had a few of the children graduate to our youth group “The Kung Fu Hamsters (for 11-17 year olds). We have welcomed some new families and younger siblings, but would welcome more children – there is definitely the capacity for more.

REPORTING BACK!

Our regulars seem to get a lot out of it, and are incredibly articulate at explaining what they have learnt to our Vicar, Richard, and the congregation after each session (this puts us leaders under pressure to ensure that they have learnt something important!).

We currently we have a healthy number of Junior Church leaders, but are always ready to welcome anyone else who is interested
