Toddler Church - please help yourself at any time during the service to the toys, books, paper & pens in The Truman Room or at the round table at the back of church.
Junior Church — Aged 4 years up to school year 3 &… Stepping Up Church — School years 4 to 8
These groups take place in the church hall during the 10 o'clock Sunday service. The young people and children will be called to the front of church before the first reading and return in time for communion. There are always three leaders and older children are welcome to come and help.
What do we do?
We use as a guide the teaching programmes set out in the “Roots” publications, which suggests activities that will reflect the Gospel reading for the day, so we are thinking and reflecting on the same issues as the main congregation. The session will usually start with a game to warm up and introduce the theme of the day, followed by reading a simplified story version of the gospel reading. We will then go on to the main activity, which could be creative art work, model making, drama, cooking, treasure hunts, gardening or problem solving games.
We are also thinking of ways we can encourage the children to become involved in the EcoChurch
Stepping Up Church will be more of a discussion session and will include paper puzzles and word games etc.
The children and young people take part in special church services and present a nativity dramatisation at Christmas. Sometimes the children & young people will lead worship songs & readings in church
We run an annual kids activity afternoon to help promote Junior Church, which is usually in the Spring.
Our regulars seem to get a lot out of it, and are incredibly articulate at explaining what they have learnt to our Priest, and the congregation after each session (this puts us leaders under pressure to ensure that they have learnt something important!).
We currently we have a healthy number of Junior Church leaders, but are always ready to welcome anyone else who is interested.
